Of all the amazing animal figures in this ancient Mayan text, the only intellectual explanation these experts could account for when identifying the Eagle and Condor was:
“A remarkable figure is that shown in plate 17, fig. 4, in which an ocellated turkey and a king vulture confront each other with necks intertwined.” (1)
That was it! They said nothing more, nothing less. These so-called experts had nothing else to say of this remarkable figure because they were disconnected from Indigenous thought and culture, interpreting the figure based only on their own Eurocentric egos. So much for being experts on Mayan culture.
If only they knew the movement that would re-connect our people to the prophecy based on that remarkable figure.
If only they knew.
